News from The Parish Council - November / December 2024

Gavin and Wendy Winpenny represented our community at last Sunday’s Remembrance Parade and laid wreaths at the Birchington and Acol War Memorial on The Square.

We understand that Barbara Inchley will take-over the publication and distribution of Village Voice. In the meantime, our Parish Council had agreed, with Birchington Parish Council, to take space in the Birchington Community ad Magazine, which is already delivered to Acol households at no cost to the Parish. Our first report, below, will be in the December magazine. However, we are pleased to hear that Village Voice is to be maintained and will also provide our copy for inclusion in that newsletter.

Richard Steel (Chair)

December News

Firstly, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all our community a very Merry Christmas!

Following the last Parish Council meeting, we are pleased to report that we have been successful in being awarded a grant from the KCC Community Fund towards the village planters.  Grateful thanks are extended to our County Councillors for their financial support towards this project, and to Cllr Gavin Winpenny who will be constructing them ready for spring planting.

The village CCTV system has now undergone a much-needed upgrade.  The cameras image quality and range will be highly improved with the new system.  Thanks again to our County Councillors for their contribution towards the upgrade.

Nominations for the Freedom of Acol Award have now been received and are being considered by the Nominations Committee.  The Award will be presented at the next meeting in December.

Cllr Steel is currently working on a Welcome Pack for new residents who have moved into the village.  Information regarding local services, village groups and activities will be included in the pack.

A village coffee morning is being arranged by the Parish Council, to help residents who may be experiencing loneliness or isolation.  Further details will be made available when arrangements have been confirmed, however, we will be able to offer a lift to anyone would like at attend but are unable to get themselves there.

Following on from the success of last year, a New Years Eve Party is also being arranged.  The party will be held in the village hall, 7:30pm- 12:30am.  Bring your own drinks and a plate of food for everyone to share and enjoy.  There will be music, games and a lot of laughter to look forward to!

We would like to offer our grateful thanks to the Village Hall Committee for their kind generosity with a financial donation towards prizes, the late licence and free use of the Hall, to enable the party to be held.

Please let Wendy Winpenny or Sarah Corby know if you can come along and we’ll look forward to seeing in the New Year together!
